The Episcopal Youth Event (EYE) is a triennial event for the entire Episcopal Church. Over 1000 people (high school students, their adult mentors, and Bishops from around the church) come together and live on a college campus for a little under a week.

The Episcopal Youth Event (EYE) is a triennial event for the entire Episcopal Church – the opportunity to participate in this incredible event only comes around every three years!

Over 1,000 people (high school students, their adult mentors, and Bishops from around the church) come together and live on a college campus for a little under one week.

Time is spent in worship, large group presentations, small group discussions on a variety of topics and a lot of time hanging out and meeting people from around the world. EYE is an incredible opportunity for our youth to get to know the wider church and their home diocese. Eastern and Western Michigan will travel together to EYE as a super-group of Michiganders!

As previous participants, we can’t wait to share this experience with the next generation of leadership in our church.

WHERE WILL EYE BE HELD?

EYE will be held in the heart of Washington D.C. The Dioceses of Western and Eastern Michigan will be taking a big super group to represent our sides of the mitten to Washington D.C. alongside Bishop Hougland. EYE will take place on the dates of July 7-11, 2020.

WHO CAN ATTEND EYE?

EYE is open to youth currently in 9th-12th grades, or the equivalent and adult mentors. Because space is limited, participants will be chosen with an application process.

HOW MUCH DOES EYE COST?

The cost per participant will be $500. Each individual, with the support of their parish, will be expected to raise $500 toward the cost of the event. The dioceses are subsidizing the remainder of the true cost of EYE, which includes event registration, travel, food, and materials.

We see our delegation as pilgrims that we are sending forth to this experience, it is the expectation that the individual’s parish will sponsor the participant for all or the majority of their total cost.

WHO SHOULD APPLY?

While we encourage everyone to apply, we will be bringing a delegation of diverse young leaders who represent the breadth of our diocese. We will be choosing people through an application process to ensure that the selected youth who are ready to experience the greater church and her diversity, and who also demonstrate capacity to bring home what they have experienced and learned to share with their peers and members of our diocese.

We hope to have a diverse group of faithful, mature high schoolers, along with adults enthused about learning with them, and empowering and equipping them to be disciples in the world. Members of our delegation will come from parishes with and without “youth groups.” All members of our delegation will need to be able to handle airline travel, to speak up in groups, to have the language to share their own faith journeys, and to be trustworthy in honoring the covenant for behavior required of all participants.
