Reading Camp
Reading Camp is an intensive literacy education program for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th-grade children to experience success in reading.

Through abundant hands-on learning opportunities, in a comfortable, stress-free setting, adults work closely with the students in gaining skills for reading and comprehension. It is free to all campers through full scholarship and is staffed entirely by volunteers.

Our Reading Camps take place in two locations:

St. James Episcopal Church, Albion
St. James is collaborating with the Albion Recreation Department to provide a Summer Dreams Program for children 5-12. In addition to an engaging literacy education program, they will go on field trips, which may include swimming, going to the Schuler Arts Center and visiting the Whitehouse Nature Center. This camp serves 50-60 children.
St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, Beulah
The children at the Benzie County Camp read books on a chosen theme and meet in four centers daily, including phonics, comprehension, pleasure reading, and writing. They enjoy going on field trips related to the theme for the summer, and they go to a local library to hear presentations of books from the librarians. The goal is for kids to learn to love reading and feel successful in gaining skills.
