Staff at the Episcopal Youth Camp are all volunteers, and they are amazing!

We have clergy, teachers, parents, retirees, nurses, stay-at-home moms, lawyers, accountants and college students.

Our oldest counselor is 70 (something) and the youngest is 18. The common thread is that they

all give a week or two to the service of God and the care and feeding of the young people in our Diocese!

Our Staff are given a unique opportunity.  They are invited into the lives of children. They model the lives of Christian men and women.  Most are not trained in theology, but they are open with the children about their own personal walks with God.

Requirements

We do hire for positions with specific skill requirements (such as the Spiritual Director, Assistant Directors, Formation Coordinators & nurses), but most of our staff are cabin counselors.  Some of the requirements are:

  • Be an active member of an Episcopal Church (or one with similar Creeds)

  • Be able to attend the day-long counselor training.

  • Be able to work within a Christian Community

  • The diocese is very consciouncious about who it accepts, all perspective applicants are asked for references, under go criminal background checks and take the required workshop "Safeguarding God's Chldren".

Cabin counselors:  All of our counselors are volunteers, and most serve for 1 week. We need at least 30 cabin counselors each year, and 10 adjunct staff if we want to hold camp. The cabin counselors act as mentors, parents & big siblings to the children in the cabin.  Each cabin has 2 counselors to share the job - our idea is to have one "parent age adult" and one "young adult" at junior camp, and to have all older adults at senior camp.

Can I stop by to help with camp?

Though this is not a “closed camp” to parents and clergy, uninvited visitors are not encouraged. All visitors must have previous approval from the camp director. Visitors must not interfere with the camp program and staff members’ duties.

If you would like to come to help with camp, please contact Gennie.
